He first gained attention starring in the Australian version of As the Bell Rings from 2007 to 2009. His breakout role came in 2010 when he played the lead in Stuart Beattie’s film adaptation of the novel Tomorrow, When the War Began. Akdeniz went on to appear in the fantasy horror film I, Frankenstein and the drama The Water Diviner (both released in 2014). From 2016 to 2017, he portrayed Aladdin in the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time.
Over the years, Akdeniz has built an impressive portfolio, appearing in both film and television productions. His credits include The Flight Attendant (2020–2022), High Potential (2024–present), and the independent films You Hurt My Feelings and Dumb Money (2023). Akdeniz made his film debut in 2005 with the Australian movie Puppy. He later played Raff in Disney’s As the Bell Rings from 2007 to 2009. His performance as Homer in Tomorrow, When the War Began earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 2010 Inside Film Awards.
In 2014, he appeared in I, Frankenstein and The Water Diviner. He went on to take recurring roles as Aladdin in Once Upon a Time (2016–2017) and as Robb Wellens in season three of Siren (2020).
